International Pinotage Day 2018, dedicated to South Africa’s own unique grape varietal, is celebrated annually on the second Saturday in October will be celebrated at the home of the world’s first bottled Pinotage – Lanzerac Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.

International Pinotage Day 2018

In 1925, Professor Abraham Izak Perold, the first Professor of Viticulture at the University of Stellenbosch, successfully crossed two grape varietals – Pinot Noir and Hermitage (Cinsaut) – to create the country’s first indigenous wine grape variety, Pinotage. Some years later, Lanzerac Wine Estate became the first winery in the world to use the word ‘Pinotage’ on the label of its 1959 vintage.

This year, on 13 October 2018, Lanzerac Wine Estate invites Pinotage lovers to spend the day exploring this proudly South African varietal through the Estate’s three Pinotage wines, whilst enjoying the relaxing atmosphere in the estate’s tasting room and deli courtyard.
