Kuier@TheCastle for festive family fun Searching for last-minute gifting inspiration or a memorable family day out? Head on over to the next Kuier@TheCastle, which takes place on 14 and 15 December 2024 at the Mother City’s iconic Castle of Good Hope.

Hosted by the Craft and Design Institute (CDI) in collaboration with the Castle, this special festive edition of Kuier@TheCastle features a diverse selection of handcrafted goods made by local artisans and designers. From homeware to art, fashion to accessories, there’s something for everyone on at Cape Town’s biggest gift market.

Local is lekker: supporting Cape creatives

As the perfect antidote to mall shopping and gifting fatigue, this community-driven event also gives one the chance to support local designers and artisans while celebrating Cape Town’s unique talent.

In fact, Kuier@TheCastle is all about locals supporting locals. Every purchase made contributes directly to the livelihoods of Cape Town’s craftspeople, giving them an important chance to make the most of their talents during the festive season.

As Erica Elk, the CDI’s CEO, says: “Kuier@TheCastle is a wonderful event for everyone in Cape Town – especially our word-class designers, craftspeople and artisans. It offers priceless exposure and marketing opportunities to over 220 small businesses every month, enabling them to make sales and trade connections that keep bringing benefits well after the festive season is over. This is a unique celebration of talent, creativity and inspiration – and a reminder that local is lekker all year.”

Exciting special feature

Adding to the fun, this festive edition of Kuier@TheCastle will feature the Cape Town Plant Expo, Cape Town’s largest plant market. It features succulents, indoor plants, orchids, outdoor plants, carnivorous plants and, of course, plant-related accessories. This is the second instalment of the Cape Town Plant Expo.

More than a market: a family day out!

Kuier@TheCastle is also a safe and family-first celebration of community spirit. Bring the whole family to enjoy live entertainment, delicious food and hands-on creative workshops. Kids can dive into festive-themed crafting at the Creative Corner, while the whole family can explore the Castle’s fascinating history, including the William Fehr Collection and the Khoena Heritage Museum.
