Lomzimba Uyabhidla, loosely translated as ‘this bodily ooze’, is an English/isiXhosa production devised by Brett IIsley, Kwindla Anthony and Nasfa Ncanywa. It’s directed by Nasfa Ncanywa.

The play explores the trauma of apartheid that continues to haunt us and the impact it has on our bodies and way of being in the world. It questions how we move forward in a world that is advancing, whilst we carry the wounds of the past?

The production is set in the Eastern Cape in a small house belonging to a grandmother whose granddaughter has been away to study in London. Her return highlights that our new democracy is archived on our bodies – both black and white – and questions if it is working for black people and their culture, or if it is maintaining white supremacy through Western forms to advance peace.

Lomzimba Uyabhidla will be staged at the Theatre Arts Admin Collective from 18 to 23 November, 2019 at 7pm, with a matinee on 23 November at 2pm.
