Good news for regulars of Mulberry & Prince Kitchen and Bar, situated just off the trendy Bree Street strip, is that the eatery is now open every Sunday from 10am to 2pm for brunch. Their “lazy Sunday” menu pays homage to comfort food and the restaurant’s American influences.
Since opening in 2016, Mulberry & Prince has become celebrated as Cape Town’s favourite New York-style eatery. Co-owners and chefs Cornel Mostert and Cynthia Rivera met whilst studying at the Culinary Institute of America.
The new Sunday menu features an array of American brunch classics. Don’t expect to find typical brunch fare such as chia bowls and eggs benedict.
These chefs are serving up buttermilk biscuits smothered in house-made sausage gravy, chicken and waffles with Texas style hot sauce, as well as brioche french toast infused with nutmeg and served with whipped honey butter and maple syrup.

House-made hashbrowns, cheesy grits
There is an array of sides that one can add to your dish, such as candied bacon, house-made hashbrowns and cheesy grits (the American cousin of mielie pap).
Brunch will not be complete without bubbles, of course. You can also enjoy a mimosa made with fresh naartjie juice, and for the not-so-faint-hearted – try their spicy Bloody Mary garnished with a blue cheese stuffed green olive.
During the evening Mulberry & Prince offers a superlative dining experience enhanced by the beautiful interior design. Behind the iconic dusty pink doors, this curated kitchen and bar has great exposed brickwork and also showcases work by Cape Town-based artist Kurt Pio.
But while the dinner menu is all about elevated New-American cuisine with a focus on shared plates, brunch is the surprising antithesis. Hearty single portions and delectably rich, decadent choices await – perfectly suited for Sunday mornings that become afternoons…

Eat Out Top 30 nominee
And as the weather warms up, Mulberry & Prince spills out into its newly renovated, adjoining courtyard.
Mulberry & Prince is a nominee in the 2017 Eat Out Top 30 Restaurants in South Africa.
