Young trumpeter Muneeb Hermans debuts with his own quartet at Kwa Sec Ny 138, no. 52 in Gugulethu, Cape Town on Sunday 26 August 2018 from 3pm.
The Capetonian has previously performed with established jazz musos at Kwa Sec as part of the Jazz in the Native Yards sessions. This time around he’s put together an ensemble of young musicians that promise to blow up a storm with new jazz compositions.
Muneeb Hermans Quartet
“My new quartet and I have been practising for over three weeks now and are ready to give the Gugulethu audience a gig they will never forget,” he says.
Together with his young crew – pianist Thembelihle Dunjana, drummer Tefo Mahola and Sean Sanby on double bass, they will play some of Muneeb’s original tracks.
“In passing we will do some familiar standards and some improvised numbers,” explains Muneeb. “The sound will be tight and send an upbeat vibe that draws pleasant nuisances of the Cape jazz,” he adds.

Cape Minstrel fraternity
Born in Cape Town, the trumpeter’s musical journey started with the Cape Minstrel fraternity. He later on went off to study Jazz Performance at the University of Cape Town, and now plays regularly on the Cape Town jazz scene.
