Top South African stand up comedian Nik Rabinowitz is heading to the UK! And if you don’t know who he is well then that is just really really … reasonable actually.

Nik Rabinowitz

Nik is a household name on the South African comedy scene. He’s known for his multi-lingualism, (at one time being hailed as the foremost Xhosa-speaking Jewish comedian in the country) his political commentary and his wiry frame. Okay, the last one isn’t true but in comedy there’s a rule of threes.

What keeps him grounded is that even though he has produced 15 successful one man shows, is on TV locally, appeared on the UK’s Mock the Week and has performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London amongst many other achievements in his 15-year career – his mother still finds him disappointing.

After the successful recent run of his one-man show in Cape Town, and turning 40, Nik decided that the best location for his midlife crisis would be London. (Please don’t tell him that 40 is the new 30, it’ll only confuse him further.)

Are you a South African missing home? Of course not, because you made the right choice! You definitely, definitely made the right choice! Definitely. For sure. Nik’s show will make you feel like you never left – but safer.

Are you a Londoner wondering how to cope with the passive aggressive nature of your South African colleagues? Nik’s show promises to give you all (none) of the tools to help you deal with this situation.

In this show, Nik explores a variety of subjects, some related to his bout with middle age, some not. Some related to his many (three) children, some not.  Either way, he’s not going to commit to anything specific now because then you’ll come with very specific expectations of the show, leaving him no room to change his mind at the last minute, which he is wont to do.

Honestly though, does it really matter what it’s about? It’s a comedy show. There will be stories, there will be awkwardness, there will be accents. And – it will all be funny which is all you really have to know.

Please remember that the ZA Rand is now at 16 to the UK Pound so if you see Nik after the show, buy him a beer would you?
