A great addition to this year’s ATKV Oesfees bill at Solms-Delta in Franschhoek is the third-generation incarnation of The African Jazz Pioneers. Besides this jazzy marabi act there’s a range of unique Cape acts on the lineup, plus Ladysmith Black Mambazo has just been added to the bill. Ladysmith were nominated for their 17th Grammy in 2016, and this will be their first show in Cape Town since 2013.
Solms-Delta celebrates another successful wine harvest on Saturday, 25 March, along with workers of the valley, and music, food and wine lovers, who share in the joy of this diverse cultural event.
Music van de Caab project
The Franschhoek valley has a lively music culture, and the local Music van de Caab project, sponsored by Solms-Delta and Boschendal, under Adriaan Brand seeks to preserve the diverse musical heritage of the rural Cape. The Music van de Caab acts performing at the Oesfees include the Klein-Handjies Pre-school Choir and the Kaapse Klopse-style walking band, Langbroeke; a female choral ensemble Die Soetstemme; the Delta Valley Entertainers and the Lekker Lekker Delta group. Then there’s Radio Kalahari Orkes, Manouche, Nick Turner, Riku Lätti, Bacchus Nel, Jackie Lätti, Hannes Coetzee, Die Papier Familie Orkes, Akkedis, Les Javan, Hemelbesem and Yoma, Brain Cloete, Churchil Naudé, Die Wasgoedlyn and Tribal Echo.
Look out for The Betjies from Betjiesfontein!
An annual ATKV Oesfees highlight is always a performance by winners of the ATKV Riel Dance Final. The Betjies from Betjiesfontein were the winners of the ATKV 2016 Riel Dance competition in the Junior category and will take to the stage to entertain with their impressive footwork.
Traditional food and wine will be on sale. There’ll be a special area for kids managed by Cre8tive Kids. Children are registered and are looked after inside a safe fenced area.
