Our City Film Project will feature a two-day film festival on 18 and 19 November 2017 hosted by Ster-Kinekor Nouveau at the V & A Waterfront. The festival will showcase 53 LGBT short films from 89 filmmakers representing over 30 cities from around the world selected from 2310 submissions.

The films range from productions which explore gender and identity, to the challenges of coming out, to the joy of marriage and even an “action-musical” (pictured right).
Our City Film Project, an Initiative of Big Bad Wolf Pictures, is a filmmakers collective showcasing short films from cities across the world. It aims to celebrate storytelling across genres within the short film medium.
Launched in December 2016, the film project works on a chosen theme for a year which will determine all entries. The chosen collective theme for 2017 – LGBT short films across all genres – opened with 20 short films from 12 cities with a screening which took place in Cape Town on 18 March 2017.
The project aims to present the best films within the years’ theme with attention to originality, direction, performance, structure and production value. The project has seen a remarkable growth for the collective and also the quality of films submitted especially from emerging filmmakers.
The vision of Our City Film Project is to create a platform for co-productions within the collective to meet the growing demand especially between African and international filmmakers. Top filmmakers will be grouped together to develop and produce films leading up to the annual film festival.
The 2017 Film Festival will feature five competition categories: Best Fiction Short, Best Documentary, Best Artistic Short and Best Animation which will be determined by a jury panel, and the Audience Award.
