The Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) will end a stellar 2024 with their dynamic new musical revue, Part Of Your World at the Theatre on the Bay from 27 November 2024.
The LAMTA triple threats will take to the stage in a show featuring many of renowned composer Alan Menken’s celebrated songs from iconic Disney films and Broadway productions. Part Of Your World promises a thrilling journey through his musical masterpieces.
During Menken’s 35 year career he crafted some of the most cherished scores of our time. With eight Academy Awards, as well as Golden Globes, Grammys, Drama Desk Awards and a Tony, his influence on musical theatre and film is unmatched. He holds the current record for most Oscar wins by a living artist. Menken’s contributions to The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), and Pocahontas (1995) won him two Academy Awards for each film. He also composed the scores and songs for Little Shop of Horrors (1986), Newsies (1992), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Hercules (1997), Home on the Range (2004), Enchanted (2007), Tangled (2010), and Disenchanted (2022), among others.
Menken’s finest compositions
Steve Hochman of Grammy.com said Menken “ranks among the top composers in film and theatre”, writing, “his music is part of the DNA of several generations of children and parents alike”. According to Jeff Bond of The Hollywood Reporter, Menken is largely responsible for redefining the musical genre for a contemporary audience both in film and on stage, calling him “one of film music’s most versatile craftspeople”.
Part Of Your World will present a stunning showcase of Menken’s finest compositions, from the stirring ballads of The Little Mermaid to the vibrant energy of Little Shop of Horrors.
