On 1 August 2017, Robert Fridjhon, one of South Africa’s most loved writers and actors had a stroke. He was on his way home from an interview about his most recent production, My Name is Asher Leve, which was showing at the Monte Casino theatre.

The stroke was major – it happened in the right hand side of his brain, leaving him paralysed on his left hand side. The stroke itself has affected a large area of his brain and he is in need of rehabilitation. Like a lot of performers, Rob is not on a medical aid. An appeal is being made assist him with funds. Funds raised will cover the following costs, which are the cornerstones of recovery:
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Nursing staff
- Physiotherapy
- A physician trained in rehab medicine
- Potential psychologist
- Potential assistive technology (wheel chair, walker, cane)
Many will know Rob as the genius mind behind plays like Twitch, Bohemian Rhapsody and Sherlock Holmes and The Curse of the Queen’s Diamond. He also performed in the hit shows, Pythonesque and more recently, The Play That Goes Wrong.
WeekendSpecial interviewed him earlier this year, and you can find out more about this creative, funny and clever theatre maker here.
