As Africa’s only FM radio station, Fine Music Radio is mindful that it is a privilege and responsibility to share the world’s most beautiful music: classical and jazz. Thus the station is delighted to launch the FMR app, available, for free, in both the Apple and Android stores. Simply type “Fine Music Radio” in the search bar. The app mirrors FMR’s website, which also offers live streaming, however, the app is quicker and more convenient to use on a smartphone.
It’s especially useful for listeners outside FMR’s transmitter range, who can now easily listen to FMR in the car simply by connecting their phone to the car’s audio system via Bluetooth. The app plays in the background, much like a traditional radio set, it plays uninterrupted, regardless of what other applications you’re using.
Light on data
The FMR app is also light on data, with live streaming estimated to use about 36 megabytes per hour.
Fine Music Radio’s station manager Eon de Vos said, “Since the demise of Classic FM, we have received numerous requests from keen listeners to broadcast countrywide. This isn’t possible, because as a community radio station our FM broadcast licence restricts us to the greater Cape Town area. Fortunately our app, which is quick and easy to use, is the perfect solution. We are asking our listeners to be ‘Fine Friends’ and share the app with their family and friends.”
Wesley Lewies, operations manager at FMR, concurs, “Radio is by nature a medium consumed on the go, a companion to many and a source of entertainment, information and pleasure. We know listeners engage with FMR via live streaming and playing podcasts, thus a mobile app is ideal.
