There’s plenty to take in on the stage this week in Cape Town. Here are some of the highlights:

Artscape features an exciting production Miriam Makeba: Mama Africa – The Musical, with Niyi Coker Jr writing the script and Thandi Swaartbooi and  Zakes Nkosi choreographing the musical.

Kalk Bay Theatre features a run of the popular Big Boys the Third, a fun show which promises razor-sharp lines and damn hot dance moves.

Willy Russell’s dramatic/tragic musical Blood Brothers is on at the Artscape Arena, with a fine performance from the Carnavals of the Heart Dramatic Society.

Comedian Riaad Moosa explores what it means to be turning 40 in his new show Life Begins at the Baxter. Also at this theatre, respected psychiatrist Dr Sean Baumann’s cantata Madness: Songs of Hope and Despair opens on February 9.

The Theatre on the Bay hosts comedian Mark Banks with his latest show, Banksrupt, which will be followed by Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

A dark and dramatic Rigoletto presented by Cape Town Opera and directed by Marthinus Basson is up at Artscape from 11 – 18 February.

The Alexander Bar hosts In bocca al lupo, Jemma Kahn’s third kamishibai show: a graphic and candid and whimsical journey across three continents, using four story boxes, one giant cicada, a naked Catholic (or two) and one golden surprise. It’s up from 30 January to 11 February. And also coming up is Mate, which gets stuck in there and tackles dating, dining, sixty-nine-ing and matters of the heart, from 6 – 18 February.

Shakespeare’s Twelth Night is currently on at Maynardville. This upbeat adaptation of the romantic Shakespearean comedy is directed by Geoffrey Hyland.

The Masque Theatre is hosting David Muller in Love Sex Fleas God from February 7 to 11. Meanwhile on 6 February is V-DAY 2017, an updated version of The Vagina Monologues.
