MEGAN CHORITZ reviews
On Tuesday evening, after a walk on the promenade with a friend from out of town, we spoke about going to get something to eat. I had my gorgeous girl dog, Frieda, with me, and I remembered We Café. I had been wanting an excuse to go there for ages, and this became the perfect opportunity. Off we went.
What a special, lovely, amazing space. Olya, one of the founders, took us to our table outside, next to the fairy light tree, and assured me that Frieda would be fine off-leash. This was an extraordinary moment. We sat while she explored and checked out every nook of the outside, including the water bowls.
Then Olya spoke us through the menu, and I chose a delicious grapefruit and basil fizz to drink before deciding what to eat.
Filling and more-ish
I chose a divine take on moussaka – a layered bake with delicate and warm flavours – that was as filling as it was more-ish. My friend had a roast veg starter and a mushroom risotto. He isn’t vegan, but he was completely happy to have a delicious vegan meal. Yay for us.
We Café has a Thursday movie night, which sounds like big fun, especially in the summer, and there are so many things on the menu I’d love to try, including their burger, because everything including the brioche is made from scratch.
Diagonally across the road from Power and Glory, this strange urban oasis is already calling me back. And honestly, you don’t need to be vegan, or a dog lover to enjoy every moment there.
