It is rare – and some are “unaware” – that womxn of colour may enjoy a day free from a complex mix of misogyny and racism. The daily dose of discrimination is bad enough without the malice, subtle sea-lioning and calculated gaslighting with which it is served and to top it all off: the pressure to continue to appear friendly and composed in order to be respected as a human being and an equal.
This is not a far-fetched dystopian thriller; it is the disturbing reality black womxn face every day and This Is What Makes Us Girls* aims to narrate the struggle of queer and black femmes through the transcendent sounds of local artists of colour whilst maintaining an intersectional space that warmly welcomes both trans and non-binary folks.
The performers will express the anger, the eccentricity and allure of womxn of colour by celebrating their excellence through music. The event will be held at The Waiting Room, an eclectic venue often buzzing with live bands and DJs from The Mother City.

Enjoy an authentic celebration that acknowledges the experiences of womxn of colour with a wonderful night of music and dance.
