The second International Public Art Festival (IPAF) takes place in Salt River, Cape Town from 10 to 19 February 2018. An initiative by NGO Baz-Art, this unique event gives both local and international artists the opportunity to showcase their stories, skills and styles in real time and on a global platform.

Although entry is free for the duration of the festival, there are two fun and educational opportunities to learn more about street art and murals, meet street artists and even have a go at creating your own work of art by booking a workshop.

Daily one hour workshops – Are you a budding graffiti artist? Workshops are being held each day of the International Public Art Festival at the Salt River Blackpool Football Club from 10-19 February, from 10am to 5pm.  You will learn from a professional street artist who will teach you how to handle a spray can and you will be able to practice creating your own street art.

You will be able to discuss murals and the secrets of using various paint nozzles to create one of your own pieces of mural magic. Go and have some fun with colour, paint and a spare wall. Workshop price is R350. Tickets: Webtickets.

Watch artists live on a special guided tour

And help children in the community at the same time. You can view all the street art at the International Public Art Festival on a one hour guided tour through the streets of Salt River. You’ll be able to view the murals and artwork which have been painted by national and international street artists on a selection of street walls. Artists will offer fascinating insights about what motivates them.

Your guides are street art specialists and during the tour of the 80 or so original and newly painted murals, some might still be under construction. The professional guides will not only explain the different artworks, but also be able to give you a short history of the Salt River neighbourhood. The street tours start from the Salt River Blackpool Football Club.  Tickets: R350. Webtickets.

Note: By buying a ticket, you’ll help to educate children in the community as the revenue from the Guided Tours is used to give workshops and art classes to the youth in the Salt River community
