Moyin Oloruntoba – entrepreneur, presenter, digital influencer, model and content creator reached new heights with her YouTube channel The A1 when the channel reached one million views from South African viewers. Commenting on the milestone, she says its “motivation to continue pushing the envelope in creativity, execution and business strategies.”
Cape Town-based, Nigerian born Oloruntoba was named Rising Star 2016 by FAIRLADY Magazine. A marketing graduate, she founded and starting presenting The A1 in 2015. The channel focuses on youth culture and entertainment, as well as African celebrity news and pop culture.
Young, educated and opinionated
The A1’s viewers are young, educated and opinionated students and young professionals. However, running a YouTube channel is no easy task and a lot of effort goes into making the end product flawless. Mozé Media is her content creation company.
Her other most recent addition is her feature on the breakfast show Expresso on Tuesdays and Fridays, which focuses on African entertainment.
New fashion and entertainment talent
Her knowledge about the local and international fashion and entertainment worlds has seen the YouTube channel rise in popularity across Africa, as well as the US and UK. “The world is taking notice of what is happening in Africa,” adds Oloruntoba. “Countries such as the UK are looking to Africa for inspiration not to mention new fashion and entertainment talent.”
Attending every possible fashion show, documenting the looks and reviewing not-yet-released pieces for her followers to revel in, the blog soon become an extension of Oloruntoba’s modelling career, radio presenting on 2OceansVibe, as well as the platform from which she created The A1. Geared towards the passions of Africa’s youth culture, The A1 provides video content that informs and inspires in a funny and engaging way through entertainment news, interviews, event coverage and red carpet fashion. “Those that have followed the channel since its inception are still surprised to know that I founded it,” explains Oloruntoba. “Viewers simply saw me as one of the presenters not knowing that I was very much the one driving the process from the research and scripting right through to the final edits, but I wouldn’t have done it any other way; the experience it has given me in priceless.”
Best and worst dressed red carpet celebs
Obsessed with red carpet events, Oloruntoba understands that keeping up with more than just the Kardashians is not always easy; especially for students who rarely own TVs, but who consume vast amounts of info via social media. “The A1 is very popular with students who – having free access to Wi-Fi on campus – are still able to catch up on what happened at the Metro FM Awards, the SAMAs or the Met, without having to stay up all night,” she says. “The channel also offers interviews with local personalities, as well as reviews of the best and worst dressed red carpet celebs with commentary from actual viewers. The results are not only incredibly funny – and often brutally honest – but a lot more engaging than flipping through static images.”
Oloruntoba aims to be the foremost local and African entertainment and pop culture go-to-YouTube channel in Africa.
