Hatch is a new exhibition of prints and mixed media works by printmaker Roxandra Dardagan Britz. She works with various print media from etching and monotypes to mixed media. Her works are imbued with different layers of meaning where themes on the human condition are explored.  These are expressed through references from animals and the natural world to Greek mythology.

Roxandra Dardagan Britz

According to SA Art Times, Roxandra Dardagan Britz was born in Zimbabwe and grew up in the small farming town of Banket, where her parents ran a large general store. In 1979, at the height of the bush war, they were killed by the Zipra faction. Her work now uses etching (much like documentary photography), as commentary on socio-political issues facing Zimbabwe. Britz received the Purvis Art Prize in 1984; and her Masters in Fine Art (Graphics) from Rhodes University in 1992. She has exhibited at the Chicago Museum in the USA and the Delta Gallery in Zimbabwe, as well as at the Spier Contemporary, and been published by Fourthwall Books.

The artist’s walkabout will be on Saturday 23 September from 11am -12.30pm.
