BAMBOO PLANT POWER. A vegan in Cape Town review by MEGAN FURNISS

BAMBOO PLANT POWER REVIEW

I can’t help myself. If a new vegan spot opens in Cape Town I feel compelled to check it out. Last week I had time in between two things, I found myself close by, and so I popped into BamBoo Plant Power in Loop Street for a quick lunch.

The gorgeous big space with its cool and simple interior whispers healthy and calm; all natural greens and woodish colours except for the huge pink neon BamBoo sign. There is a coffee and juice station in the centre of the space, making it an easy place to get a coffee, juice or smoothie on the hoof.

I asked the owner what I should try – they have a pretty extensive menu, and then I ended up telling him that while everything looked and sounded delicious (particularly the Calamari (oyster mushroom) and Slaw) I needed a toasted sandwich. I chose the toasted Avo and Mozzarella on sweet potato bread.

Making being a vegan so easy

My sarmie arrived with a side of delicious, Thai inspired cabbage slaw. I can honestly say that it was hands down one of the best vegan toasties I have had. Melty vegan mozzarella, tons of avo, kale, squishy bread and a tangy, zesty homemade pesto made it a winner. It was also totally affordable, guaranteeing my speedy return.

I am going to have to find time to work my way through the menu. It is so exciting that there is another great vegan spot to add to the growing list of plant-based eateries in Cape Town. These places are making being a vegan so easy.
