The False Bay Folk platform is a great spot to see who’s out and about in the acoustic genre. Their next Clovelly Country Club staging is on Tuesday, 1 August, 2017. Featured acts will be Jenny & the Jameses and Ruby June.
Jenny and the Jameses’
The trio is an original Celtic folk band formed in 2015. The band comprises singer / songwriter Jennifer Eaves on lead vocals, guitar and piano, James Hall on violin and vocals, and multi-instrumentalist James Harvey on accordion, harp, flutes and vocals.
The band’s debut album, Untitled, was released in September / October 2015 and since then the band have been on a whirlwind adventure in and around the country. After a year of touring the band now find themselves in the studio again on the verge of releasing their second CD.
Jenny and the Jameses have performed in the Cape Town Folk and Acoustic festival, Knysna Celtic festival, White Mountain Festival, Taste of Darling Festival, Darling Beer Festival, as well as venues big and small, quirky and straight-laced, and humble and grand. They never fail to charm.
Ruby June
Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ruby June’s music is a combination of indie-folk and rock music infused with tasty South African undertones. Her songs tell stories of people lost and people found, and the freedom we each seek to find.
Major musical influences include Karen Zoid, Freshlyground, Jack Johnson and the church band she grew up listening to.
Ruby June has, along with her band, embarked on a very well-received tour of the Garden Route and Karoo which she called “Cape to Karoo”. She has shared the stage with several big names in the industry and is set to release her first official EP which will include four of her original compositions in October 2017.
