FanCon Cape Town Comic Con 2019 is South Africa’s dedicated comic convention, bringing comic book creators and cosplay artists together. Established in 2016, the fourth annual event returns for a fun-filled fan experience over the weekend of 27 to 28 April 2019 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

FanCon 2019 – geek heaven

Visitors can expect an exhibition floor space filled with pop culture and geek-related exhibitors and vendors, an all-star roster of local and international comic book talent and world class cosplayers, live stage events, a jam-packed panel programme of talks and workshops and more. FanCon Cape Town Comic Con 2019 highlights

International guests include legendary comic book artists Brian Stelfreeze and John Higgins, industry veterans of over four decades, who have worked on such icons as Batman, Judge Dredd, Black Panther and Watchmen; award-winning Japanese illustrator Sana Takeda, artist on the best-selling Monstress comic series; and Sam Humphries, the fan-favourite writer of Harley Quinn for DC Comics.

Cosplay guests include international superstar Ani-Mia, and South African sensation Kinpatsu. Both will be available for fan meet and greets, signings, and will judge the always highly-anticipated cosplay competition on the final show day.

Anton Kannemeyer and Conrad Botes, founders of the controversial Bitterkomix magazine (pictured right), in a rare appearance together, will be launching their new publication, Lag-Lag #2; SA’s top cartoonist, Zapiro will be in attendance on Sunday only. Bitterkomix and Zapiro booths will be on the floor, selling merchandise.

South Africa’s largest artist alley to date will be featured, with over 60 artists from all over southern Africa, including comics talent from Zimbabwe. Multiple comic book launches will be showcased in a special SA Comics Launch panel on stage.

FanCon Cape Town Comic Con 2019

FanCon 2019 will celebrate Batman’s 80th anniversary with an exclusive Batman t-shirt, featuring the art of superstar artist Jim Lee. As a show exclusive, the limited edition shirt will be available nowhere else. A carefully curated collection of classic and vintage Batman comic books will be on exhibit on the show floor.

Convention exclusives include two Avengers Infinity pop vinyl figures. These Captain America (pictured left) and Hawkeye Funko pop vinyls are the hottest trending pop culture collectibles and will be sure to be a hit amongst fans and collectors.

The return of fan-favourite events and activities, including a cosplay masquerade and competition, a geek quiz where visitors stand a chance to score cool stuff, a board gaming zone where visitors can play for free, funky photo booths, live stage performances, and more.
