Trekkies who want to totally immerse themselves in the epic Rogue One: A Star Wars Story space adventure should head to the new Scene Xtreme cinema at Nu Metro Canal Walk. This is Africa’s first-ever laser projection cinema, plus it has the biggest cinema screen in the Western Cape.
Just so you’re in the loop about the stats here, the screen’s size is 20m wide and 10m tall. The laser projector used is the latest and best flagship Barco Laser projector that enables full RGB laser projection.
And, Scene Xtreme is also the first fully-enabled Dolby Atmos-sound cinema in Cape Town. Expect 128 audio channels that ensure a fully immersive, 3D sound that is audible from all corners of the cinema… and comes from all directions! Okay right, so all you need next is soda, popcorn and 3D glasses!
Kinetic depictions of huge battle scenes
To experience Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 4DX at the V&A Waterfront, expect kinetic depictions of huge battle sequences. Tilting-forward and -backward movements are deployed to give a feeling of free-floating in the X-Wing fighter plane during spectacular battle scenes. Air shots and tickler effects add to the thrill-factor for the fire-fight with stormtroopers – accompanied by swirling wind and deep vibrations from the motion chair.
And, when the Empire’s new weapon, the Death Star, is about to unleash its superpower and the group of rebels tries to fight back with all their might, the combination of 4DX effects like fog, water and scents work in harmony to add another layer of immersive reality to the film.
