COME TOGETHER. A Beatles inspired dance show. A LAMTA production with students and recent graduates. Theatre On the Bay.
MEGAN CHORITZ reviews
Come Together is back by popular demand and I can totally see why. I confess that dance is not my chosen genre of live performance, but this rollicking, stylish, funny, and totally diverse dance production got me, held me, and kept me thrilled from the opening number to the powerful finale.
Everything about this show, with its massive cast of students and recent graduates, is tight and top class. A range of superb choreographers bring diversity, mood shifts, and a range of styles to the stage. The interesting and sometimes off the wall covers of The Beatles songs add to the intrigue, giving new life to well worn songs. The costumes are phenomenal (costume design by Frankie van Straten), and I can only imagine the chaos of quick changes behind the scenes because there are so many costume changes – fabulous! Lighting design by Faheem Bardien is superb, and the entire show is a well-oiled machine, growing and shifting and exploding with energy, style, and creativity.

Stars in the making
Anton Luitingh and Duane Alexander are the brains, juice, and soul of this production; an extension and showcase of their incredible school. These young people, under their watch, brim with confidence, superb technique, energy and enthusiasm, and total commitment. It is wonderful to witness. These are stars in the making, in the best and most old fashioned of ways, the ways of musical theatre.
I loved the connection between the performers, I loved the faces and hands, I loved their agility and strength, I loved their drama and sass. I loved the sophistication of the choreography, I loved the energy and power of the ensemble, I loved each individual performer and I loved the energy that was transferred to us, the audience. Everything is in the title of the show. Come Together.
