The Little Giants Songs of our Fathers bill is a celebration of 20 years of music-making. This jazz showcase takes place at the Artscape Theatre on 15 June, 2019 at 8pm.
Today the Little Giants is the flagship for IMAD – The Institute for Music and Indigenous Arts Development, where more than 250 students have had the advantage of being part of the band over the past 20 years.
Many of these students have either become successful musicians, or have moved on to other professional careers.
Little Giants Cape Town
In 1999 The Little Giants Music Project was established by two well-known jazz musicians – saxman Ezra Ngcukana and pianist George Werner. The initial purpose of the project was to provide the youth from the townships of Cape Town with a positive outlet for their talent and potential. The Little Giants soon evolved into a high-calibre performing Afro jazz youth Big Band.
So it’s with great excitement that IMAD looks forward to the Little Giants Songs of our Fathers concert . The gig will feature the present band as well as seasoned alumni, future Little Giants plus some seasoned guest artists.
The event coincides with National Youth Day and aims to further serve to recognise the youth of South Africa.
