The Mike Rossi Project – Journey CD will be launched on Sunday 7 October, 2018 at 7pm in Kalk Bay at the iconic Olympia Bakery. CDs will be on sale at the venue.
Journey is the 3rd album released by The Mike Rossi Project and is a follow-up to the Mike Rossi Project 2015 release of Take Another Five (dedicated to Nelson Mandela and Dave Brubeck) and Trespassing Permitted (2013).
South Africa’s top jazz musos
Journey features a whirlwind tour of musical styles including standards, Latin, jazz rock, swing, blues, modal and South African jazz, with some twists along the way. The music ranges from a gentle whisper, to a big band shout using trumpet, trombone, a variety of saxophones and woodwinds along with a stellar rhythm section.
The band comprises some of South Africa’s top jazz musicians and includes Mike Rossi on soprano, alto, tenor, baritone saxophones, clarinet, flute, alto flute and piccolo, Lorenzo Blignaut on trumpet and flugelhorn, William Haubrich on trombone, Andrew Ford on piano and organ, Wesley Rustin on acoustic bass and Kevin Gibson on drums.
The Mike Rossi Project plays standards and original music specially arranged for 6-piece jazz ensemble.
