VANESSA LEVENSTEIN
Fine Music Radio is proud of its spectacular line-up of Fine Classics and Smooth Jazz. The station also prides itself on responding to listeners’ needs. FMR listeners are seasoned news followers.
FMR’s Station Manager, Mark Jennings has responded strategically: “We are continually reassessing our offering to listeners and we have received consistent requests for a weightier news broadcast. We are upgrading our news content with two exciting initiatives.”

EWN on FMR
Weekdays at 1:00pm FMR will broadcast an Eyewitness News bulletin. Renowned for their fearless reporting, EWN brings audiences credible, independent stories. Their bulletins comprise accurate and breaking news, sport, travel and business reports. The fit between FMR’s erudite audience and this premier news brand is perfect. Editor-In-Chief of Eyewitness News, Katy Katopodis is generous in her outlook: “We are thrilled to be able to offer this Eyewitness News (EWN) service to Fine Music Radio. Community radio has an important role to play in the South African media landscape and we hope that EWN will make a meaningful contribution to the station.”
International Journalist Glynis Crook
The rest of the day’s bulletins will benefit from the contribution of award-winning journalist Glynis Crook. Glynis is no stranger to FMR, having previously presented news at the station. As a UCT graduate she also has a Master’s Degree in Journalism from City University, London. Crook has covered major global events, including The Gulf War and worked extensively for Radio France’s International English Desk.

On her return to South Africa she produced Chris Gibbons on the Midday Report for nearly a decade. The show won numerous awards, with Crook herself garnering two. “As a journalist, radio has always been my first love. The only limits to radio are your imagination. As radio journalists we have to create pictures to assist our listeners. Our imagination is limitless, because pictures are limitless,” she says.
Good News
Jennings is confident that this mix will upgrade FMR’s news: “We were absolutely delighted to hear that Primedia offers community news stations fully packaged news bulletins. We are also confident that Glynis Crook will grow our news brand with insightful local news and arts content.”
The station broadcasts five news bulletins during the week, alternating English and Afrikaans, with four bulletins on Saturday and three on Sunday.
Fine Music Radio continues in its endeavour to deliver content that fulfils audience expectations. Now if only FMR could guarantee happier news!
