Pianist Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane is airing music from Closer To Home while on tour. He and his band will be in Cape Town from Friday, 16 November to Sunday, 18 November 2018 and in Joburg on 29 and 30 November, 2018. iSupport Music Business in partnership with Concerts SA is presenting the Durban-based composer.
Mashiloane’s third album release Closer to Home comes at a time when he wants to highlight his musical identity. Being born in Mpumalanga, surrounded by Ndebele, Pedi and Swazi people and later moving to KwaZulu-Natal, he observed that each society breathes its own character: “If that character is not embraced the significance of being part of it, is lost”, says Mashiloane. One can hear these cross cultural influences on Closer to Home.
Artists on Closer to Home
An impressive list of established artists contributed to the album – names such as Kunle Ayo on guitar, Tlale Makhene on percussion, Paki Peloeole on drums and Qhubekani Mthetwa on bass.
About the choice of musicians that contributed to his work he says, “These musicians all take pride in their identity and are not only driven by their skilled impressions, but also by relevancy and accuracy.”
