The Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront in Cape Town boasts one of the best summer chilling spots in the Mother City. Tobago’s Breaker’s Brunch clinches the deal writes JANE MAYNE.

Ever since Radisson Blu’s Tobago’s restaurant popped up smack bang against the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, it provided one of the best outlooks onto Robben Island.

Neighbouring properties played catch-up and now with wall-to-wall development along the promenade most plush establishments mimic something of that awesome view.

But with its heated rim-flow pool close at hand, sipping a cocktail on the Tobago’s Bar & Terrace is a no-brainer. The extra weekly allure for the summer months is of course what’s dubbed the Breaker’s Brunch Bottomless Dubai Style Brunches at Blu.

Bottomless drinks

No-one is going home hungry from Radisson Blu’s Breaker’s Brunch. The deal includes a selection of bottomless drinks, including cocktails, local beers and wines, tequila and prosecco, with all-you-can-eat starters, a selection of one of four platters for mains, and rounded up by an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet.

The generous starter buffet covers lots of ground with mussels, panko prawns, oysters, salmon, calamari, pasta salads, chicken and melon salads, Springbok Carpaccio, vegetable Bailey and more.

A choice of four platters

Meat Platter (smoked habanero chicken wings; wagyo beef burgers on charcoal sesame bun, gherkin, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, mustard mayo; lamb chops in sticky BBQ sauce; rustic chips; corn on the cob, side salad), Mixed Grill/Surf & Turf Platter (smoked habanero chicken wings; wagyo beef burgers; white wine mussel pot with toasted ciabatta; grilled tiger prawns; savoury rice; rustic chips; side salad) and a Seafood Platter (grilled tiger prawns; crumbed cajun calamari strips; white wine mussel pot with toasted ciabatta; fish of the day; savoury rice; side salad) and Vegan Platter (Beyond meat burger on beetroot sesame bun, vegan mozzarella, gherkin, cucumber, tomato, lettuce; crumbed sweet and sour nuggets; coriander & BBQ spicy bites; sweet potato chops; corn on the cob; side salad).

And on the sweet side

The eye-catching spread of Tobago’s dessert station certainly wins hands down. Baked custard, mini doughnuts, meringues, cupcakes and many more delights beckon here.

My only complaint is that the service could be snappier (I waited an hour for a platter to share), and that the DJ’s endlessly repetitive electronica marred any attempt to sit back and soak up the awesome setting – it’s not a Shimmy crowd and that kind of limited, mind-numbing playlist is a killer.

Price per head

The event is weather dependent.
