WGRUV Dance Company heads to Cape Town to perform their debut season of PHETOGO at The Star Theatre (formerly The Fugard) from 24 to 25 June, 2022. It is the company’s first showcase in Cape Town.
The company will honour the classics and modern styles of contemporary, ballet and Spanish dance. In a variety of colourful dances, they will share a restaging of Jessica Lang’s, Solo In 9 Parts. This contemporary ballet in three movements celebrates life, dance and will lift your spirits as you enjoy Jessica’s choreography to music by Vivaldi.
PHETOGO will also feature a new neo classical ballet created by Ken Yeatman, Holly Gruver and Lex Gruver called Shades Of Blue, which finds themes of relationship, Balanchine style nuances and subtlety. The Gauteng performances will feature classical pianist Michael Sheehan.
Carli Olivier and Holly Gruver have also combined forces to present a collaborative piece titled, SAND which ignites a feel of a contemporary breath reaction to the swirling intensity of Spanish whip and whirl. Unsquared by American choreographer, Tyler Gilstrap takes one back to the 1950’s with a playful Quartet into a Duet, which ushers in a new style of fall and recovery to Dave Brubeck and Bill Evans music.
Audiences can also enjoy Rhythms, based off of Elderbrooks’ Could, as contemporary choreographer Holly Gruver draws upon classical Graham style work, plus more.
