BREADrev makes wood-fired rocket ovens, sets up township bakeries and this weekend will also share their passion for artisan bread made using ancient traditional methods.

Johannesburg-based artisan baker, Penny Zeffertt, will be offering a full-day sourdough workshop at the BREADrev premises on Saturday 24 June. She’ll share her skill and knowledge and you’ll a nchance to get your hands into some dough – and mix, shape and bake artisan bread using organic stone milled flour and natural yeast.

Theory and practice of sourdough baking

The workshop covers both theory and practice of sourdough baking; understanding the process; learning how to start and maintain a sourdough starter and how to fit all this into a busy lifestyle.

A demo on how to make focaccia, sandwich loaf and a no-knead pot bread will also be given while waiting for the bread to rise and then participants will make a pizza for lunch.
Wannabe bakers will take home the bread they baked in the wood-fired rocket oven, course notes and some starter to get you going.
